Scumble Reader Art

I went to the post office tonight and had received some wonderful letters. I always love pictures of the characters in Savvy or Scumble. This one's great! It's from Chris, in Arkansas, and is of Ledger from Scumble... along with one of the Queen Alexandra Butterflies, and Sarah Jane's house in the background (with SJ's face in the window--and even the birch tree with the bench under it). I also like that Ledge's shirt says 'Sledgehammer' since that was the (detested) nickname his cousins, Marisol and Mesquite, gave him.

Thanks, Chris!

Two Polish covers for Savvy

I'm not entirely sure why there are two covers for Savvy in Poland--titled Magiczna Trzynastka--Magical Thirteen? Magic Thirteen? Sorry, I don't know Polish! Perhaps one of these is hardcover, the other paperback? I don't have my author copies yet, so I can't say for sure. But I thought I'd put up the artwork for both. Both are fun.

Word of the Week

I haven't put a word of the week up in a little while... so let's start 2011 with:

STERNUTATION

Sternutation is "the act, fact, or noise of sneezing."

And, just for fun, I'll also tell you about a condition called Autosomal Dominant Compelling Helio-Opthamalic Outburst Syndrome (which people shorten to ACHOO... seriously). Also called 'photic sneezing' this is when sudden sunlight or bright light makes a person sneeze.

These are things I learn.

Really, I was just researching the parts of the nose in hopes of finding a way of artfully not repeating the word 'nose' twice in one sentence when referring to a character trying not to sneeze. But then I got distracted by learning new words and facts, and here I am. Did you know that one out of every three people is a photic sneezer?

Well, now you do.

And now, having thus enlightened any bloggy readers, I will go back to writing. This is why it takes me so long to write a book! (Well, it's one of the reasons.)

Happy New Year!
