Nim's Island and Wendy Orr

This week I had the enormous pleasure of meeting Wendy Orr in Minneapolis. Wendy is the author of Nim's Island (as well as 28 other books!), the book that has been adapted as a feature film by the wonderful people at Walden Media.

It was great fun to watch an advanced screening of the movie with Wendy and see the story come to life after reading the book last fall. Jodie Foster is so funny, and Gerard Butler and Abigail Breslin round out the small cast perfectly.

Wendy is a lovely, gracious woman. She even appears in the film herself briefly as someone in the crowd at the airport!

Spring in a Jar?

My daughter and I attempted a stop-motion photography video for this one, with mixed success and a lot of silliness as we'd set the timer to remind us to jump up and and shoot another picture of the flowers opening. It's not as good as previous Blob claymation attempts on our part, but it was still fun to experiment with shooting a living, changing thing.

My Savvy This Week: Cloning Myself

I WISH!

It's been a busy week and I sure could have used two of me! It would have been all the fun but with twice as much energy... or at least another me to do some laundry.

Walden Media launched their new BookShare Club with Savvy, and I have been thrilled and overwhelmed by all of the wonderful responses that have already been posted by people who have had the chance to read or listen to the first chapter of the book.

You can also read a new interview that was recently posted at the Look Books blog by clicking HERE. And Penguin Young Readers Group is getting ready to launch a Savvy minisite at their website--more soon on that!

I will be at the PLA conference in Minneapolis this month. I get the chance to attend an advance screening of Nim's Island and meet author, Wendy Orr. I will also be signing advanced copies of Savvy at the Penguin booth from 2:00-3:00 on Thursday, March 27th.
